XR Backup, is a very simple, easy to use and powerful backup, archiving and
versioning system. The program is designed to keep your changes safe, and
allows you to access your backups the easiest and fastest way possible.
XR Backup is different from any other backup software; its main feature is that
it will take copies of your files automatically whenever they are changed, and
it keeps a full history of versions of each file. It also allows flexibility as
to when the backup is done. You can select an hourly, daily, weekly or monthly
backup...or even place a shortcut on your desktop so that the program will
detect changes on demand.
This program allows you to browse and manage the history of your files, you can
select to view and/or restore an individual version of a file, or you can
select to fully restore your files to how they were at any point in time.
With XR Backup, you can select your backup destination to be on a Local Disk
Drive, a network shared folder on another computer, a Network Attached Storage
(NAS), a USB Hard Disk or even a Flash Drive.
What Does XR Backup Do?
XR Backup works in the background while you work, to gather your changes and
save them automatically in the backup store. It can also work on a timed
schedule to perform these backups, or you can select that the program will only
take backups whenever you want by placing a shortcut for the quick-backup
operation on your desktop or quick lunch bar. You can use it to backup files
from your desktop PC. It can also be used with USB Flash Disks, iPOD or almost
any portable storage device.
How does it work?
The user chooses at what interval and for which files to perform backups. When a backup is performed a list of versions for each chosen file is generated. These versions contain the history of changes over the specified time. The backup versions are most accurate if the real-time backup option is enabled. The real-time backup option saves a version every time the file is saved. This is known as Continuous data protection - the program will copy your changes instantly and will store all the versions in specified backup destination for later recovery and access. To control disk space usage, the program also provides purging of old files based on the user's preference.
